Name a Star!

As a just-for-the-fun-of-it^tm thing we let our registered StarStrider users make up a name for a previously unnamed star and add it to a special database of 'user defined names' that can be accessed by the program.

Note These are not official star names. There are certain 'commercial' companies (often labeling themselves as organizations) that claim that you can buy the right to name a star from them. Don't believe it! The only organization that can officially assign star names (that are recognized by the astronomical community at large) is the International Astronomical Union (IAU). And you certainly can't buy one. In fact something like 99.9% of all star names are very old Arabic, Greek or Latin names. Very few new ones have become recognized in later times.

Anyway, here are our rules for submitting a just-for-fun star name for inclusion with StarStrider:



	You must be a registered StarStrider user.
	Only one name per user, please!
	Only previously unnamed stars are eligible for naming.
	Stars that are part of a 'constellation node' are not accepted.
	It would be more fun if you select a star that is not too close to Sol.
	We reserve the right to refuse any name that we feel inappropriate or that could offend someone of a sensitive mind...
	Submissions are not anonymous; we may publish the names of the persons who have submitted a star name to us.
